Mooncake Festa
On the 21st of Sept, 30 wheelchairs headed to Chinese Gardens from Cheshire Home. On them were 30 disabled old folks. Following them were a team of young, helpful and energetic men from AFS
^^. There motive? To celebrate the Mooncake Festival.
Cheshire Home is a home for the disabled nestled somewhere in Serangoon Gardens. An adopted home of AFS, we visit them monthly for spring cleaning as well as events such as this.
Not my first time there cos I went there about 2 months ago for spring cleaning, so I was familiar with some of them there. In them I saw how fortunate I was.. In them I saw strength despite infirmities. In them there was love. While they were somewhat pitiful in some cases, most were high in spirits. Kudos to these valiant people!
I accompanied this lady called Li Li (i think..lol sry cant make out her name when she said it). She was pretty shy at first, tired and wanted to go home. While we bought them around, we talked. At the end of it all, the smile on her face and the sparkle in her eyes were the best ever reward I could have.
I thank God that I am still young and healthy right now.. and I hope to stay this way as long as possible.. Old age comes to all I guess, but one will never be old if you're young at heart.
