Dancin' GunsWell we're back after a wee of tango with the guns we so feared. And it is one thing to be feared.. Nothing short of heavy, bulky, this piece of metal is a horror to dance with! The dance floor is our favourite hangout Club 20, where we spend our days in 160 SQN.
Each session includes 4 men being totally shagged out, the other 4 in good condition. Woe betide the poor 4 doing the pushing and controlling the towbar. A real physical experience u know? Haha think just doing the tango with our beloved equipment can build us up. Or break us, so we found out. We feel effects from all these exertions and this can take some toll on our SOC.
Which we had one this week and it rained. As per SOP, it got changed into a physical conditioning session. While to be fair it wasn't as tough as the previous one, it was not easy either. When Peng Yu sounded out to the PTI that some of us were involved in pushing and might not be in the best condition to perform the exercises: they were literally shaking, a certain instructor told us such words would affect the morale of others, that they were having tough training themselves.
As a matter of fact, I think none of the others would argue that our training is the toughest. While I don't blame the instructor for what he said to us, I feel that we should at least be given the appreciation for being in our course. We do not have a easy time. We push and work one of the heaviest equipment in the RSAF, easily tens of times heavier than the rest and much more. With each day I feel a strange attatchment to our course, a sense of belonging to the SQN. When someone belittles our training I get a little irritated. We do not need exhortation, rather we want to be recognised and at least understood. We are Gunners. We are the Best Unit. We will prove our worth.
To my fellow Gunners: we have gone far, pushing our way through. And now we're halfway through. The big events are just a couple of months away. We will survive despite the statistics. Don't give up because the pride that comes with commissioning will be much more than our peers.
Here in Chong Pang Camp this is what we do : push gun cock gun climb everyday..
