One Week
One Week

Yup, one week of work over.. The very first week that I'm actually working inside an organisation. Its tough.. To say the truth, I never really expected a desk-bound job to be so challenging. Its not like a simple worker who serves or cooks or packs something, but to have to be able to coordinate things between various departments, update people of happenings and even take some charge of operations, its a lot more challenging than I thought.

Whats worse is, nothing prepared me for the job I'm holding now, not even a course that runs through the job I have to do and how to do it. While I'm grateful that I'm not starting from scratch since I got an upperstudy to guide me, nonetheless there are just so many grey and hazy areas that still exist in my job. What do I do? How do I handle it? There are so many questions that are left unanswered. Can I learn fast enough without making any serious mistakes? That is whats really concerning me now. Looking at my other coursemates, I guess they're feeling pretty much the same. Well except for some perhaps XD anyways, I'm sure there are many things they don't know about their roles too.

Only time can teach us what we need, whether it be the hard way or otherwise. We have to learn, and fast. There may not be much time before the support we have at this moment leaves us to fend for ourselves. Will we survive?

Haha.. I better..

Vacation
Vacation

Wee hee.. back from Klang!! Haha ,much deserved vacation sia.. Me, Zel, Kel and Rui Qi really had loads of fun there, execpt maybe Rui Qi, cos she had a cough that prevented her from eating things that include dairy products, which means no milk, cheese, beef and even bread!! Poor thing.. also got restriction on chicken etc etc etc. The horror! I could never survive a vegetarian diet lor.. Lucky shes a girl, no need to eat a lot, lose weight le also nevermind ^^

We really shopped a lot, but i returned with only a pair of jeans to prove my trip. Sigh.. Was actually hoping to buy a watch, budden I realised soon enough that watches in Msia are much more expensive than S'pore.. Sigh.. The Seiko watches are damn nice!! But so expensive..

I ain't gonna go into a long story about what we did, (for the whole story visit Zel's blog) too tired la..

Started work today.. Haha.. AS3 is really a tough job!! Can't really say much, cos its largely classified stuff.. but i spent the whole day learning the ropes of my job scope, and its not over yet!! Help!! I'm gonna be swamped in work.. But I'm so happy my upperstudy has been so helpful to me, patiently explaining everything to me. And the 2 Ops Spec that will be assisting me.. Hope we will have a good time working together in the future..

Anyways, there was a unit Life day today, where we went bowling at Marina Square.. Haha.. I realised I suck!! lol.. maybe one day can become better?

Phew.. very tired.. haven been sleeping much for the past few days.. wont be blogging anymore le.. gd nightz!

And the appointments are out.. I'm the new 160 SQN AS3.. Wonder if thats good or not? Oh well, i only know I'm going on a vacation!! wahaha.. so very happy! Think I'll be super tired throughout though.. been missing loads of sleep..

Dining In
Dining In

We had dining in today to officially usher the new officers into the family of RSAF. Wad issit you may ask.. well its an ultra-official dinner. Check out the furnishings!

Its a solemn dinner that really requires a lot of ettiquette. Why? Cos there are senior commanders up to a Major General at it! Can't imagine doing something wrong in that kinda situation right?

Nonetheless, it still made for amusing situations. Theres something called a Kangaroo Court (is that what its called?) where we accuse our fellow officers for whatever infringements duing the course of the dinner ranging from using the wrong cutlery, loose threads, standing up in the middle of the dinner, to nose hair, to using the middle finger to support the glass.. well the list of reasons go on forever.. It was hilarious as lame reasons, backstabbing was emplyed to try to prove the victim guilty, at which he will be made to drink from a blend of alcohol diluted in sprite. Not to mention the even lamer and feeble attempts to defend themselves!

During the dinner, we were served a scrumptious 5-course meal of dishes with names so long you can form sentences with. But it was really delicious and i found myself eating asparagus! Lol! Can't imagine lor..

To say the truth, I was also eligible to be called up to be charged. The chain supposed to be holding the sides of my uniform were sadly torn off by the toilet door handle just seconds before I entered the room. Really the best display of Murphy's Law at work.. Fortunately, being low lying rendered me to be a target not worth hitting on XD so i escaped ^^

Some guys really got tipsy after multiple glasses of port, red wine and the alcohol blend.. some puked.. Bleh really reminded me of myself back then.. I had to clean up too ><><)

Officership
Officership

Today I will comission as an officer of the Singapore Armed Forces. Today I will have duties and responsibilities entrusted to me from the President himself. Today will herald a new beginning in my life within the SAF. From today on, things will change.

Having attended the workshop held for young officers, I came to realise the role of officers in the SAF much better. It is in no way small or simple. An officer is a leader of men, one who makes decisions that can change things. As I look around the many peers around me, the other 222 officers-to-be who will commission alongside me today, I think about how many of us will succeed, leading men years older than us. Will they ever respect a young, wet behind the years junior officer? Someone they have not met? And the senior officers too, will they respect us?

Respect is earned, not just by having that one bar up there on our shoulders. Not the fact that we are better than everyone else, so we will like to believe. No. We may not be better soldiers at all. But the difference lies within our abilities to hopefully be able to asses situations and make decisions fast. The right decisions mind you. Nonetheless the one below us definately have more experience than us, perhaps even more proficient in their specialised vocations. We can never forget that fact and think ourselves as supermen, the ultimate narrow-mindedness that could creep into us being officers.

Sometimes, I get a little disappointed as I see officers that are incompetant. I know they are definately fallible, but the decisions they make and the somewhat heck-care attitude they display to really put some effort in their jobs. I sure hope that will not happen to me.

The SAF is definately not a Serve And @#$% off thing, whether it is for me, the NSFs or Regulars. It is a lifetime commitment to the officer corps. I hope we do not ever forget that, and treat the SAF as just an obstacle to our lives.

Slicker drills and sharper actions were the call for the week (well whats new) from SSM. As usual, the "king of the swines" was his old humourous self, juggling between strictness and fun. I guess it is people like him that can really get peoples respect. The secret, I figured, is to punish people in such a funny way that every1 else enjoys it. Thus, with 99% of the people on your side laughing with you, that poor chap can only laugh along..

Haha but I must say he's really funny.. Its strange how people do that while scolding people.. Anyway I can't tell you how relieved I was when they let us out on thurs then go back AFS on fri morning. Espercially cos we had to stay back on sat this week due to some crappy drills.. And the band is here to join us! Nothing beats the drum accompaniment to give people the motivation to march smart, move smart and bang double quick time. OOh.. love it!! And SSM won't be taking us next week.. Sigh.. Think its a big disappointment to every1 of us.. I hope the replacement will be as competant as him..

Went to eat steamboat with KT and Gang on sat. Marina Bay.. The one with the crabs you have to kill and shell yourself. >< and as usual, its me and kt who do the dirty work. After some chopping and ripping, the crabs lay..err.. parted? Few hours, a few live prawns turned dead in steaming soup, tones of pork and chicken, shells that were disappointingly sucky.. I lay a bit sick of the food. Wasn't full, just sian.. Wonder why.. So I quickly got up and pulled them to the arcade haha.. Was may main intention anyway XD Played drummania and guitar freaks.. and was really happy cos i thought I improved!! Wahaha.. Was leaving then passed this lady in another arcade playing..

haha so sad.. her bar is empty.. heng she play beginner or she fail le..

lol then went to find the others who were playing pool.. so long never play le so very lousy sia.. not like my jc days.. sigh.. Yup, talked to sam (who has ORDed grr) about DOTA, got a lot of new insights to the game.. Think I can play better le.. haha.. yup.. more pics..

Commissioning soon!! Can't wait.. praying to get S2..
