LifeIts funny how life teaches us lessons over and over again. And yet, somehow, it just doesn't stay with us long enough to have a lasting impact on our lives. Like say the recent quake in China that took the lives of countless people. And here we were traveling down the road to Kunming Airport at the time the quake hit. 15 oblivious souls, protected by the sheer size of China that we didn't feel a thing. Or on hindsight, maybe the bus was too bumpy for us to even notice (I was sleeping!)
Or like how another of my friend's parent passed away just yesterday from probably a heart attack. In a span of time probably not more than 5 minutes her mom's life was snatched away. Its heart-wenching when I think of how lives can be extinguished so easily. At least I'm happy that at least she seems ok.
What is life to us who are living? Do we cherish it enough to even care about how we are living it? Indeed, I'm not the best example by far. But it makes me wonder: if I had a choice, how would I be living it. And we all have a choice. Singaporeans are probably one of the least bounded people in terms of how they live their lives. Money is often not a big worry. Other than that, the only other thing that demands our time would be school or work. Even these can be chosen. So what then constitutes the best choices?
I wish I could answer. But I suppose the best choice so far that I have made was to follow Christ. Within the principles of the Bible are probably the guidelines of the best possible choices that one could ever make in his or her life.
Yet the decision is up to us.
If I had to rate how happy I was I'd humbly put in a 60%. Pretty much enough to keep me going each day and enough of a buffer to see me through tough times. But yet its far from what I think would be a more holistic life that I really want to lead.
When can I attain that? Perhaps never.
Its nice to live each day with a smile, whether its a facade or not. I remember Dong Gu (China) asking why I keep smiling. To which I would answer: Cos not smiling would make things so much worse. And unconsciously, smiling does help you and people around you feel better. A smile brightens up anyone's day, so smile more.
